Washington Square Journal Submissions
Washington Square cover from Winter/Spring 08. Redesigned by Sam Potts of McSweeney's fame. Cover photography by Aphrodite Désiré Navab.
I have already sent this out in an email, but I figured it would be doubly good and a double reminder to look this over and think about the great opportunity this presents. Read on further if you wish to know what I'm talking about!:
My friend Levi Rubeck at NYU is Editor-in-Chief of Washington Square, the NYU literary magazine that has national distribution and is popular in the NYU community. He asked me to pass on information about an opportunity to have YOUR work featured alongside the works of established and up-and-coming authors! This is a pretty great chance to have your work featured in a new and interesting venue, so please read over the email and respond to the journal if you are interested.
Thanks for your time!
Here's what Levi has to say:
Washington Square call for artists portfolios! Washington Square is a nationally distributed literary journal featuring the works of such existing authors as Anne Carson, Yusef Komunyakaa, Etger Keret, and Terrance Hayes, as well as emerging authors like Melissa Range, Deb Olin Unferth, and Andrew Grace. Our newly redesigned magazine (by Sam Potts of McSweeney's fame!) has been graced with photos by Thomas Sayers Ellis and Aphrodite Desiree Navab.
We are currently looking for visual work that can be reproduced in black and white, a portfolio of art that carries a theme or flows in a series, to use as the cover and as a collection within the journal. Sketches, drawings, prints, posters, digital work, photographs, photos of sculpture, etc.. We're interested in it all. Please email your submissions as .jpg attachments or provide a link to your photo-viewing site of choice to email@example.com Thanks and good luck!
Again, I can't reiterate how much of a great chance this is. Anne Carson! If you don't know, go pick up Decreation or ask to borrow it from me. To have your work appear next to hers—or any of these authors for that matter—is a huge honor. And Levi is a terrific individual. To read some of his writing, check his blog. It's full of wonder and music criticism! Thanks everyone!
